There has never been a generation with easier access to Scripture. It is on every phone, in a dozen translations, searchable in seconds. And yet I meet more people than ever who tell me they cannot seem to read it.
The problem is not access. I believe that the problem is noise. Reading well requires a quiet time that our lives are actively organized against.
Three things that helped me
The first was accepting that twenty unhurried minutes beat an hour I keep postponing until conditions are perfect. Conditions are rarely perfect.
The second was reading larger passages. Verse-by-verse study has its place, but Scripture was written to be read in longer stretches, enabling the reader to better grasp what the Lord is teaching.
The third was keeping a pen nearby. Not to annotate cleverly, but because writing a note that captures a new revelation forces me to slow the speed of my study.
None of this is novel. It is the ordinary discipline that every previous generation took for granted, and that we have to consciously rebuild.
