CASSELL

About Cassell Publishers.

The independent publishing house behind Robert L. Hilton's books — committed to faith-driven, family-centered storytelling.

Our Story

Stories worth
passing down.

Cassell Publishers exists to bring thoughtful, faith-rooted books into the hands of readers who are hungry for substance — whether they're wrestling with the big questions of life or just learning to read.

We publish a small, carefully chosen list each year rather than a large catalog — non-fiction that takes faith and ideas seriously, and children's literature that teaches courage, character, and heart. Every title we take on is one we believe deserves a permanent place on the shelf, not just a moment on a bestseller list.

We work closely with our authors from manuscript to print, preserving their voice rather than smoothing it into something generic. That partnership is why Robert L. Hilton's books read the way they do — direct, personal, and unmistakably his.

Some of our authors' earlier work was published under the WestBow Publishing imprint before joining the Cassell list. If you're looking for a title from that period, our team is happy to help you track it down.

What We Do

Full-service publishing, start to shelf.

Cassell Publishers supports authors through every stage of bringing a book into the world, from the first honest read of a manuscript to the day it reaches a reader.

  • Manuscript Evaluation

An honest, detailed assessment of your manuscript's strengths, structural issues, and market readiness before a single edit is made.

  • Developmental Editing

Working with you on structure, argument, pacing, and voice, so the book says what you actually mean it to say.

  • Copy Editing

Line-level attention to clarity, grammar, consistency, and style, preserving how you write rather than flattening it.

  • Proofreading

The final read before print, catching the errors that survive every earlier pass.

  • Cover Design

Original cover design built around your book's actual content and the readers you are trying to reach.

  • Illustration

Commissioned interior and cover illustration, particularly for children's titles where the art carries half the story.

  • Formatting & Typesetting

Interior layout for print and digital, set so the reading experience feels considered rather than automated.

  • Production & Printing

Print management, paper and binding decisions, proofing, and quality control through the print run.

  • Distribution

Getting the finished book into retail and library channels, including Amazon and independent bookshops.

  • Author Marketing

Launch planning, author websites, press outreach, and the ongoing work of helping readers find the book.

  • Audiobook Production

Narration, direction, mastering, and distribution to Audible, Apple Books, and Spotify, whether you narrate it yourself or we cast it.

  • Screen & Adaptation Rights

Representation and packaging for film, television, and streaming adaptation, including option negotiation on your behalf.

Genres We Publish

Twelve genres, one standard.

  • Christian Non-Fiction

Worldview studies, apologetics, and theology for thoughtful general readers.

  • Children's Motivational

Picture books and early readers built on character, courage, and perseverance.

  • Memoir & Life Writing

Personal history that earns its conclusions through specifics rather than sentiment.

  • Faith-Centered Fiction

Novels and short fiction rooted in family, faith, and moral weight.

  • Devotional & Study

Daily readings, small-group guides, and structured study material.

  • Biography & History

Lives and periods researched properly and told with narrative drive.

  • Middle Grade

Fiction for readers aged eight to twelve, written to be finished rather than assigned.

  • Young Adult

Fiction that takes adolescent readers seriously without lecturing them.

  • Poetry & Reflection

Collections with a clear voice and a reason to sit together in one volume.

  • Leadership & Vocation

Books on work, calling, and character for readers in the middle of a career.

  • Family & Parenting

Practical, grace-oriented writing for parents and grandparents.

  • Inspirational Gift Books

Short-form illustrated titles designed to be given rather than browsed.

The Process

How a manuscript becomes a book.

  1. 01

    Submission & Evaluation

You send the manuscript. We read it properly and return a candid written assessment, whether or not we take it on.

  2. 02

    Editorial Plan

We agree on the scope together: what the book needs, what it does not, and a realistic schedule.

  3. 03

    Developmental Edit

Structural work on argument, order, pacing, and voice, done collaboratively rather than imposed.

  4. 04

    Copy Edit & Proof

Line editing for clarity and consistency, then a final proofread against typeset pages.

  5. 05

    Design & Illustration

Cover design, interior art where the book calls for it, and typesetting that respects the reader.

  6. 06

    Production & Print

Paper, binding, and proofing decisions, with quality control through the print run.

  7. 07

    Audiobook Production

Narration, direction, and mastering, then delivery to the major audio platforms.

  8. 08

    Launch & Marketing

Distribution to retail and library channels, press outreach, and the ongoing work of finding readers.
